Anita learns to walk

Anita learns to walk again

Anita lost her legs as a young child, and walked with prostheses at age 6.  She outgrew the prosthesis and used a wheelchair for over 10 years.  When Anita came to Prostesis para la Vida, she wanted to walk again.  Her disability was complicated; she required a hip disarticulation prosthesis on the right and a through knee prosthesis on the left.  Anita was cautioned that most adults with such a disability were not able to be functional walkers.

Anita was determined,  and practiced for hours in the parallel bars.  Anita returned 8 months later.  She was more fit and strong and ready for new sockets.  Anita is now a functional walker with two prostheses and forearm crutches.  She has received her bachelor’s degree and works at a corporation.
