Protesis Imbabura and Fundación Jen Lee in the time of Covid 19

May 20, 2020 by Kit Frank

Logistical assistance for an emergency food program in conjunction with Prem Rowat Foundation began in April.  Beginning with the delivery of 30 food baskets, the program quickly expanded to covering hundreds of families in the province of Imbabura, and included volunteer youth packing food, assistance of the provincial government, and deliveries by the military. Focus is on the most vulnerable including elderly and people with disabilities, as identified by their community leaders.   The food baskets provide for a family of 4 for a week, and in addition, seeds, seedlings and sanitary supplies are included.  Small farmers are provisioning the program and having an opportunity to sell their produce while supporting their communities.  There is a great interest in the seeds and seedlings being provided as families are now looking to their own resources to help provide food for their families into the future.  Thank you Paul Murtha (member of Fundación Jen Lee) for  initiating and coordinating this program and we were glad that Fundación Jen Lee could provide assistance even though most of us are on lockdown.
