Adaptive Equipment

March 5, 2014 by Kit Frank

2013 has seen a tremendous amount of activity in the provision of adaptive equipment.  In September 2012 we received a grant to construct an adaptive equipment workshop.  Utilizing techniques learned from Adaptive Design Association of NY City, we make seats, trays, standing tables, and wheelchair adaptations, primarily using recycled materials, mainly corrugated cardboard.

We have trained over 100 health care professionals and parents in the techniques.  Alicia has become a certified technician and runs this workshop throughout the year. We have also passed this technology on the professionals from Germany, Italy, and Australia.  An adaptive equipment workshop was started by Alana Murphy, OTR, in Coya, Peru, utilizing the same basic tools, recycled materials, and easy-to-teach techniques.  In 2013 we received a grant from the Dorothea Haus Ross Foundation to further develop the project. We continue to seek local support to construct equipment for the many families who need it.
